Towards A Literacy of Cooperation

Bre declared "collaboration" the word of the month and I ran into some great videos that fit the theme perfectly. Howard Rheingold, the author of SmartMobs helped organize a series of lectures on cooperative studies earlier this year through Stanford University and the Institute for the Future. Video recordings of several of the lectures in the series titled "Towards a Literacy of Cooperation" are available on the Internet Archive and may be of interest videobloggers and others interested in all forms of collaboration. Click the pic to view an excerpt from this great series of lectures on cooperation, social networking, community building, cooperation and collaboration. In the clip, Rheingold explains how we have been telling a story of competition for many years, but have the chance to tell a new story that empahsizes the importance of cooperation. There are many excellant speakers in the series, including Ross Mayfield of SocialText Wiki and Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia. Even Darwins writings on survial of the species is examined to see how he viewed the roles of cooperation and competition. Did Darwin get it wrong? The answer is as surprising as it is interesting.

Videoblogging Feeds on the iPod - First Impressions

Ok, so I got my wife an iPod for her birthday and she asked me to set up some feeds (good thing she asked!).  So I tried a few of my favorite feeds and it seems to work great.  The biggest problem is that there does not appear to be a way to import my feeds into iTunes and so adding easch, one by one, seems like a real chore. None the less, this is a fun and easy to use device.

Happy Birthday Alicia

I gave my wife an iPod for her birthday. This is a video podcast for her where I sing a classic song. Hope it comes through to her iPod.

Meet The Vloggers LA - Gena Haskell

Gena gave a fantastic presentation in the Apple store at The Grove in LA on September 21, 2005. Approximately 10 minute MP3 (8.6Mb). There is a tiny gap at around 6 min 37 sec where I stupidly turned off the camera for a moment and then restarted. It was really dark, making for a poor image, and so I just extracted the audio portion.

Leah Meyerhoff's Film Twitch at the Ojai Film Festival

I was at the Ojai Film Festival to participate in a panel discusion on "Distribution in the Digital Age".

Just as we were all finishing up and walking out of the auditorium, this young lady came up to us promoting her film and I asked her to describe it for us on camera.

Turns out she goes to NYU and so I told her about my friend Rachel Toole, who is also a student there, and about Ryanne Hodson in Harlem.  I hope they get a chance to meet up some time.

Here is a brief interview with Leah Meyerhoff, one of the film makers associated with the "Into The Limelight" program.  Click the pic to view the vid.
