After DOD funded postgraduate research in mathematics and scientific supercomputing via the ARPANET, Markus worked as a software developer and manager for Smartstar Corporation, the world leader in VAX database application development. A pioneering educator and entertaining teacher, Markus has developed a variety of instructional programs for colleges, universities and the US Navy.

During the past 20 years, Markus has led successful development projects for both large organizations and startups. Before joining Outhink, Markus founded Apperceive, Inc., a software development company whose clients include America Online, Amgen, Computer Science Corporation, Delco, NASA, Pfizer, PhotoTours and Unisys.

Since Outhink's inception, Markus has played a key role in the development of the company's network publishing tools and personal services. He continues to work closely with fellow UCSB alumnus and Outhink CEO, Dave Toole, in developing Outhink's strategic vision and partnerships.

Markus has been active in online communities since before 300 baud modems were considered fast.

Markus resides in Ojai, California (Occupied Mexico) with his wife Alicia and their many animal friends.
